Pirate Timeline

1635 - Sir Henry Morgan was born in Wales.
1635 - Jean-David Nau (later called Francois l’Olonnais) was born.

1650 - Start of Golden Age of Pirates. A time when privateers kept attacking Spanish ports and buccaneers, from England and France, were often found in the Caribbean and living in Jamaica and Tortuga.

1668 - Francois l’Olonnais died after fleeing the Spaniards and being captured by the natives of the Gulf of Darien.

1674 - Sir Henry Morgan was made Lieutenant Governor of Jamaica.

1678 - Edward Teach (later called Blackbeard) was born.

1682 - Bartholomew Roberts (later called Black Bart or Barti Ddu) was born.
1682 - John Rackham (later called Calico Jack) was born.

1688 - Sir Henry Morgan died of alcohol poisoning.

1690 - Edward Low was born.

1692 - An earthquake hit Port Royal, Jamaica, causing a large portion of the port to be swallowed up by the ocean in minutes. In so doing, ending the existence of one of the world’s richest and popular pirate ports of the time.

1697 - 1700 - Anne Cormac (later called Anne Bonny) was born near Cork, Ireland.

1717 - Major Stede Bonnett become a pirate - the Gentleman Pirate.

1718 - Major Stede Bonnett died after being captured and charged as a pirate in Charleston, South Carolina.
1718 - Blackbeard died in battle. 
1718 - A time considered the beginning of the end of pirates on the sea.

1720 - Calico Jack was executed.

1721 - Mary Read died in a Jamaican prison of a fever.
1721 - Anne Bonny disappeared from records. It’s possible she escaped from the Jamaican prison she was being held in or that her father paid for her release.

1722 - Edward Low became a pirate, and was known as Captain Ned.
1722 - Black Bart died and was buried at sea by his crew.

1723 - Captain Ned disappeared. It’s possible he did some things that looked cowardly to his crew so they set him adrift or he spent his life in hiding until he was caught by the French.

1724 - Captain Ned Low died.

1730 - Golden Age of Pirates ended.
